777images on "Filling an Image from the Flags Clip Art"

I have been making some graphics using the maps of counties and the text name of the country and filling both the text and the country with the flag. I have not been able to get the flag from the styles and clip art to directly fill the image. I want both the text and the image to become one image, so I first group them. I outline the using the style inspector then I add the core image filter group and image adornment. I then have to get the image from my files by previously exporting the flag as a png file. The problem with this work around is that even though the image is grouped they are treated as individual imagesand they are not easily adjusted( ie: you can't move the image up or down or side to side. All you can do is increase or decrease the size of the image.

I tried a second work around and have a different problem. I tried putting the flag on a separate layer, adjusting the size and layout to fit what i wanted filled, copying the flag and pasting it on the other layer. I only got this to work one time, and that was by having the flag on the same layer. This worked but I had no way to adjust the image.

So far I have resorted to saving my outline image as a ping and going to photoshop to insert the flag image.

It would be helpful if there were
1) The ability to fill with clip art the same as from the image library.
2) The ability to adjust the fill up and down and side to side.

Maybe someone has a solution

In the tutorial it goes from making the land area to a section titled Join and Close paths showing blue paths radiating out from the land mass, yet there is no explanation about how to do this.

Are these blue lines drawn with the freehand tool, one after another or is there some other way to draw them?

They look so regular and evenly spaced that I cannot see that they are drawn freehand.

Thanks.

Bumpyride on "Canvas size & paper margins?"

Hello, seems like a silly question but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the relationship between canvas size, drawing size, paper and map margins within the File - Drawing Setup . . .

I noticed that when you input a custom size measurements for the canvas size, it's suggesting one should include paper margins. How does Ortelius know what "paper" margins I have added into my canvas size? From my limited perspective it seems that Ortelius automatically applies margins of it's own, e.g. 1/4" on left, top right size and over 1/2" for bottom paper margin - or is there another input feature that I need to designate what my paper margins are? For example, I would like to have all my paper margins set at 3/8 inches.

I'm puzzled why the ruler when set to inches has five increments?
How does one measure 1/16", 1/8", 1/4", 3/8" etc. etc.

I've searched the forum and have not found a way to export to EPS format - which many print shops seem to want. Are there plans for this feature or did I just miss how to export to EPS?

Thanks
Hoping to purchase soon.

I am using Ortelius to create about 25 maps for a book I am writing. Now, I am starting to work on the cover graphic, which will be a stylized version of an historic drawing of the Southwest.

My first thought is that Ortelius is just a specialized version of Artboard, or Artboard led to Ortelius. So, I am thinking that I should be able to "draw & color" with Ortelius. Right? Or will Artboard give me some unique capabilities?

Another way to ask the question: Is there an advantage to owning/using both Ortelius and Artboard?

Ok so i am very new to this Ortelius software and i'm having a bit of a problem. I have done the tutorials so i know how to work with the templates etc.
I have imported an image via Image Browser (the image is of a map of my country which already have symbols etc.) I coverted the file from Illustrator file to jpeg file so it can upload to Ortelius.
Now, is it possible to somehow edit the contents that were already on the existing map? I have been able to add stuff (symbols, roads i missed before etc) OVER the existing map but i can't edit what is on the map already. Is it even possible? Can someone help me out please, would be greatly appreciated.

How cannot set the rendering following the attributes in an item?

For example, in a way I can store a lot of attributes like a name and then set it as a name along the way.

But how with a color attribute for example, set it to be used as a color attribute for the way? Or any otehr attribute like width, etc.

Every time I add a new symbol to the Mapdiva Library Artboard wants to make a new collection to install the symbol into. I then have to move the symbol into my old collection and delete the new collection. Is this suppose to happen?
